There are a
number of definitions given to 'clutter' in the Oxford English
Dictionary and when examining them we realise where our more modern
interpretation comes from;
"A clotted mass, a
coagulation"
"A collected mass, a collection, a crowded and confused
assemblage, running together in knots and heaps"
"To heap or crowd together in a disorderly way"
"To crowd (a place or space) with a disorderly assemblage of
things"
"To Clutter - to throw into confusion, to crowd, to throw into
mental confusion and disorder"

clutter into 4 distinct areas in the hope of defining what makes
up our clutter our 'disorderly assemblage of things'
